GROCERY chain Sainsbury’s are to open a store at a massive new Glasgow riverfront flats complex.
The company will take ground floor space at the 500-apartment Platform_ build-to-rent development at Anderston Quay instead of there being a number of small retail units.
An application has been submitted to Glasgow City Council seeking permission for signage.

A planning statement explains: “The planning permission for the development envisaged that the ground floor of the building would be occupied by a variety of smaller shops.
“However, commercial interest in the retail space has come in the form of convenience store operator Sainsbury’s, with a requirement to operate the entirety of the space as one retail store.
“The proposal seeks to facilitate occupation of the space with a quality retailer providing a meaningful range of everyday convenience goods that will local residents can meet their top-up shopping requirements locally.
“Such provision is at the very heart of the 20-minute neighbourhood concept.”
A number of major residential and student blocks are proposed in the area along the Clyde waterfront including on the site immediately to the east and further east at Lancefield Quay.
