APPROVAL Given For Nearly 1,000 Flats And Student Rooms

5 March, 2024 | News

A MASSIVE rental flat and student accommodation development – including a landmark 28-floor apartment building – has been given the go-ahead by Glasgow City Council.

Dandara Living has been granted planning permission for nearly 500 one, two and three-bedroom flats for rent and 490 student bedspaces, plus commercial units, at Anderston Quay, beside the Kingston Bridge. It will be next to the new 500-apartment PLATFORM_ build-to-rent complex.

Glasgow’s planning applications committee approved the proposal today. Officials had recommended approval. Their report stated: “The applicant’s design aim has been to create a thriving, mixed use development on a site which is currently brownfield, derelict land.

“Located on a very prominent site, to the west of the Kingston Bridge, three new buildings are proposed which step up in height towards the river. Prominent on the River Clyde, a tower has been designed as a strong and expressive landmark for the city.

“The design aspirations for the tower are to appear as a strong beacon, which incorporates a quadruple height internal space acting as a viewing lounge. There is also an external roof terrace space proposed which will activate and enhance the skyline.”

The ground and first floors will include associated amenities such as a cycle hub, large open plan gym, residents’ lounge, and co-working spaces with views onto the River Clyde.

The development will also feature an urban park for use by residents and the wider local community.  Private courtyard spaces and recreational areas will be available to residents with extensive planting and landscaping throughout.

Rachel Allwood, planning director of Dandara Living said, “We’re delighted City Wharf has been given the green light.  It will play a key role in the significant transformation this part of the city is undergoing and help to bring more people into the area extending the vibrancy of the Clyde waterfront.”

Dandara Living already has a build-to-rent development, Granary Quay, at Glasgow Harbour which features 342 apartments.
