REGENERATION specialist Summix Capital has been given approval for a major mixed-use development at Anderston in Glasgow.
Councillors on the city’s planning applications committee gave the go-ahead today for the massive Central Quay scheme which includes 409 apartments for sale, a 934-bed student accommodation building, and 11 retail/commercial units.
High-quality green spaces and open spaces will be provided along with roof gardens, children’s play areas and a public plaza.
The committee heard that Summix hope to be on site with the first block (the student accommodation) in January with a view to completion in time for the 2027 academic year.
Approval was given earlier this year for 500 flats and nearly 500 student bedspaces on the adjacent vacant site.

Stuart Black, development director for Summix Capital, said: “We are delighted to have received planning permission for this exciting low-carbon development.
“This truly mixed-use scheme represents a significant investment in Glasgow, assisting in tackling the housing emergency through providing much-needed housing and best-in-class student accommodation, as well as commercial space.
“The development of the brownfield site will continue the significant transformation of this location from vacant, derelict former industrial land, to one which will create a new residential neighbourhood.
“We look forward to continue working with the local community and the council as we progress the delivery of this.”
Part of the Central Quay site — which was formerly occupied by Bilslands Bakery and the Daily Record office and printing plant — has already been developed, with completion of 498 flats for rent.
