A SPECTACULAR blaze ripped through rundown buildings at a high-profile Glasgow City Centre site early today.

Eleven fire crews — including two high reach units — tackled the fire on the corner of High Street and George Street which was reported around 1.30am.

The buildings include the Old College Bar and are subject of a major planning application by Structured House (Merchant Residential) Ltd for around 240 flats plus ground floor commercial space.
The adjacent historic Linen Bank building was unaffected.
