PLANS are being developed for a major student accommodation complex near the St Enoch Centre in Glasgow City Centre.
Glasgow property company Ambassador Group is proposing around 270 student units over 10 floors at a vacant site on Osborne Street at Old Wynd, beside a building featuring a mural of comedian Billy Connolly.
A proposal of application notice has been submitted to Glasgow City Council and public consultation is continuing ahead of a planning application being submitted.
The project’s website states: “These proposals have been developed to respond the high demand for student accommodation within the city centre. By developing this vacant site on the border of the Merchant City we have the opportunity to complete the block formed by Granite House and to provide urban realm enhancements to the Old Wynd with an upgraded streetscape and an activated frontage facing onto the Old Wynd.”
Permission was given in 2019 for a hotel on adjacent land although that has not been implemented. The site is across from the King Street car park which is subject to plans for a massive mixed-use development.
