GO-Ahead Given For Major Southside Flats Development At Old Bus Depot Site

27 March, 2021 | Residential

GLASGOW City planners have approved 121 apartments for a site in Govanhill.

Link Group, in partnership with Govanhill Housing Association, will build the properties on Butterbiggins Road at Victoria Road.

How the development is expected to look

There will be a retirement living block of seven/five floors for the corner with a number of four-storey blocks aimed at elderly residents.

The site was part of the former Larkfield bus depot. Construction of 186 flats and houses on the rest of the depot site is nearing completion.

Nearly 200 flats and houses have been built on the rest of the site

How the development is expected to look

A design statement submitted with the application explained: “The development of the Butterbiggins phase two site offers the chance to finally complete the missing corner of this revitalised residential area.”

There will be 49 car parking spaces, 40 cycle parking spaces with an additional store for 18 scooters, that would also accommodate cycles.

Planners admit the car parking levels are below the minimum standard but state: “The applicant has provided a case that the site is in a highly accessible area and that the client group for the flatted properties would have a low car ownership level.

“The site is in an area where car ownership is one of the lowest levels anywhere in the City with two town centres, with a range of shops and services, within less than five minutes walking distance.

“The case for a reduced car parking provision, based on need, location and in order to provide a high standard of amenity space, is accepted in this instance.”

The site was previously subject of applications for a Lidl supermarket and smaller commercial/retail units. Permission was given for the supermarket but Lidl had changed its mind.
