A MAJOR residential development has been approved at the site of a former bus garage on Glasgow’s South Side.

City planners have given permission for 186 flats and houses for mid-market rent to be built at Butterbiggins Road, Govanhill.

The application to develop the site — the eastern two-thirds of the former Larkfield bus garage — was made by Link Group Ltd and PL Larkfield SPV Ltd.

There will be 24 one-bedroom flats, 128 two-bedroom flats, 30 three-bedroom houses and four two-bedroom ‘cottage’ flats.

The development, designed by MAST Architects, will have a large area of amenity and children’s play space.

A loop access road will provide access on to Butterbiggins Road at the east and west ends of the site.

A total of 186 car parking spaces will be provided throughout the development. There will be 152 cycle parking spaces for the flats.
