GO-Ahead For Hundreds Of Homes Plus Commercial Units At North Glasgow Site

10 September, 2022 | News, Major Developments

A MAJOR residential development has been approved for derelict land just north of central Glasgow.

City planners have agreed that up to 300 houses and flats can be built on the east side of Carlisle Street, north of Inverurie Street/Endrick Street, in Cowlairs.

The application was made by Albermarle Glasgow 2012 LLP and also includes commercial units plus retail on the ground floor of a block of flats.

The development would feature a mix of flats and terraced housing, with buildings ranging from one to six storeys with potential for an eight-storey feature block.

The site was occupied by Cowlairs Locomotive Works until the late 1960s and later used by Scottish Water.

A masterplan — including 800 homes — for developing a large area of land on the west side of Carlisle Street was unveiled in 2019.
