
ANOTHER developer has joined the stampede to build more student accommodation in central Glasgow.
Alumno Group is proposing to develop a facility at the site of an old showroom and garage in Woodlands.
The plot at St George’s Road was cleared some time ago after permission was given in January 2019 for a six-storey building containing 65 flats.


Now a plan is being developed for a student accommodation block instead, possibly including ground floor commercial units.
A proposal of application notice (PAN) has been submitted to Glasgow City Council. No further details are given. Pre-application consultation will be required before a planning application is lodged because it is classed as a major development.
Seven other student residential schemes for central Glasgow have been brought forward in recent months after a shortage was highlighted at the start of the academic year.
In the city centre, there are five new proposals — at a vacant office block on St Vincent Street at Pitt Street; at the corner of Trongate and Hutcheson Street, on Sauchiehall Street, on Queen Street and on Osborne Street.
The trend has also spread to riverfront plots — Dandara Living have changed their plans for City Wharf to include student rooms as have Summix at neighbouring Central Quay.
