PLANS for a massive hotel and student accommodation development at a high profile Glasgow City Centre site have been submitted to planning officers.

The 14-storey complex would be at the corner of Renfrew Street and Renfield Street Glasgow, on part of the old STV studios site, beside the Citizen M hotel.

The hotel would have 300 bedrooms and would be operated by Dalata Hotels, Ireland’s largest hotel operator, under their Maldron brand. It would have a bar/restaurant and business facilities.

The student accommodation would have nearly 450 one-bedroom units.

A document submitted to city planners states that the redevelopment of the site aims to provide “a scheme of architectural quality which will contribute positively to the existing and emerging townscape.”

The application is pending assessment by Glasgow City Council.

Permission was previously given for a 10-storey office building at the site in 2015.
