AN application to turn empty bank premises in Dennistoun into a restaurant with takeaway has been refused.

Glasgow City Council planning officials decided not to allow the change-of-use application which involved the ground floor and basement at 424 Duke Street.

Previously a branch of the TSB, the accommodation has been vacant for some time.

A decision notice issued by planners said that agreeing to the change-of-use would breach the 20 per cent limit on units in the street block being in use for food, drink and entertainment.

It also stated it would result in an increase in noise, activity and cooking fumes, unacceptably impacting on the residential amenity of neighbouring properties.

No details were given in planning documents about what kind of restaurant it would be.

A planning statment included with the application explained: “The proposed change of use of this vacant bank into a restaurant will see a new dining experience introduced into the street.

“The new restaurant will complement other establishments in the area and contribute to the area’s appeal for both residents and visitors alike.”
