A POPULAR Glasgow West End takeaway pizza outlet has been given permission to expand into neighbouring shop premises and create a restaurant.

Planning officials have agreed that Pizza Magic in Hyndland Road can open the eatery which would have seating for around 40 people inside and around 60 outside.

Three letters of support were received by the planning department from the chairman of West End Festival, Patrick Grady MP and former Lord Provost Bob Winter. There were no objections.

A document submitted with the application by Bennett Developments and Consulting stated:  “The applicant [Marco Stevenson] has traded from the premises for almost 30 years and has developed a reputation for quality food for which people travel some distance to enjoy.”

The interior will feature a new mezzanine gallery accessed via a central staircase. A new frontage and awnings are proposed.
There will be outside seating at the front and side of the building.

The planning statement continued: “This proposal will see the creation of a destination restaurant based on the existing pizza outlet which itself is a local icon and renowned for the quality of fare on offer.

“This new extended restaurant will enhance the dining experience and offer both inside and outside dining. It will be a place to wine, dine, meet friends and, in so doing, foster and develop the strong community spirit in the area.”
