AN application has been submitted seeking permission for 71 social rent flats at the site of a rundown South Side shopping precinct.
The Wheatley Group plan to demolish Shawbridge Arcade in Pollokshaws and develop eight apartment blocks of four and five floors with a mix of one and two-bedroom flats. Seven of the units would be suitable for wheelchair users.
Office accommodation for Glasgow Housing Association would also be provided at ground and first floor level of a focal point corner block.

A design statement included with the application explains that the aim is to create a new sense of place and ownership to Ashtree Road, Greenview Street and Toon Hoose Square.
Soft landscaping will be used to create a more pleasant streetscape and amenity spaces.
The shopping centre site was built in the 1970s and has become dilapidated and abandoned over a number of years.
The application is pending consideration by Glasgow City planners.
