PLANNERS Asked To Approve New Drive-Thru Restaurant In Maryhill

7 June, 2019 | News, Food and Drink

A DRIVE-thru restaurant is being proposed for a vacant site in Maryhill.

It would be on Maryhill Road  opposite the large Tesco store, just a few hundred yards from a McDonald’s drive-thru.

Planning documents do not reveal what kind of drive-thru it would be although the proposed site layout is based on proposals from an operator.

The development would involve partial re-opening of the Maryhill Road/Craigmont Drive junction and alterations to access arrangements for the neighbouring JD Gym.

A statement submitted to Glasgow City Council planners explains: “Direct vehicular access to the Maryhill Road corridor is critical to make this proposal commercially viable.”

The point at which Craigmont Drive is blocked to through traffic would be relocated so vehicles could access the drive-thru and the gym from the Maryhill Road side.

The developers say this would benefit the residential area that gym users currently have to drive through.

The application is for planning permission in principle — detailed designs would be submitted if the proposals are found to be acceptable.
