3 August, 2021 | Residential

A PLANNING application has been submitted for residential development on the site of the former Coliseum Theatre in Laurieston.

Sixty-four apartments and a landscaped courtyard are proposed in a joint venture between New Gorbals Housing Association and Urban Union.

The land is between the O2 Academy and Bridge Street subway station and is bounded by Eglinton Street, Coburg Street, Bedford Street and Herbertson Street.

There will be 26 homes for sale, and 38 homes for social housing use, in several blocks ranging from six floors to four floors.

The development will also incorporate community rooms, replacing a facility are currently hosted on the site.

Display windows are proposed on the ground floor along Eglinton Street. Urban Union and New Gorbals Housing Association propose to work with an artist to develop ideas.

The application is pending consideration by city planners.

The theatre later became a cinema and then a bingo hall. It was knocked down following a fire in 2009.
