PLANNERS Agree Ex-Fopp Shop Building Can Become Restaurant/Bar With Roof Garden

SIX By Nico Holdings has been given permission to turn Glasgow West End premises into a restaurant and bar with roof garden.

The application involves 358/360 Byres Road which contains the former Fopp music shop on the ground floor and Santa Lucia Restaurant above.

Permission was given last year for the shop to be turned into a restaurant.

A statement submitted to the city council explained: “The intention for the site is to create one ownership with three facilities within — fine dining restaurant, bar and roof top bar with dining.”

The new proposal — now approved by city planners — involves seating for 78 at ground level, a further 34 seats on the first floor and a rooftop bar with 56 seats.

A pavement seating area is also proposed.

The design document continued: “The roof area will have small trees and planting to the rear and to the front with a green roof included to create a mini habitat for birds and insects and provide a pleasant vista for the flats opposite and from the bathing club / gyms to the rear.

“The roof bar will have a dedicated bar servery and will have covered areas to allow the area to be utilised throughout the year. It will be an asset for the thriving leisure/social scene of the local cosmopolitan community.”
