30 August, 2019 | News, Hotels, Retail

THE latest hotel proposed for Glasgow City Centre involves conversion of a former department store.

Manor Property Group have applied for permission to turn the building in Sauchiehall Street at Cambridge Street into a 112-room budget boutique Qtel hotel with restaurant.

The property was last occupied by Dunnes Stores.

The £12million hotel plan involves a rooftop extension to provide extra space for bedrooms.

There would be a gym and meeting rooms in the basement.

Subject to planning consent, Manor hope to start work mid-2020, opening in the third quarter of 2021.

Mark Bailey, director of Manor Property Group, said: “The plans for our first Qtel-branded hotel, on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street, will see this art deco building given a new lease of life, deliver a 112-bedroom hotel, all-day café bar and restaurant and create 50 full time jobs.”

Manor are also involved in a proposal for a major student and post-graduate accommodation development in Port Dundas Road.
