PLAN To Turn Empty Care Home Into Short-Stay Flats

11 January, 2022 | News

PERMISSION is being sought to convert a vacant East End care facility into a serviced apartment complex, complete with gym and sauna.

The 58-bed Alexandra Court Care Home at 332 Edinburgh Road closed in 2018.

The new proposal is for short-stay accommodation consisting of 58 bedrooms, each with bathroom, kitchen and storage.

Various communal facilities would be provided, including a central dining area, TV room, gym, sauna and laundry.

A concierge would be on-site 24 hours a day. Maximum length of stay would be 90 days.

A statement prepared for planners explains: “The development has been designed more along the lines of a hotel, with high quality rooms, a high level of ancillary facilities, on-site 24/7 reception/concierge services, with the added bonus of being set in landscaped grounds with easy access to the city centre.”

The application by Commercial Connexions is pending consideration by Glasgow City Council planners.
