PLAN For Seven-Screen Cinema At New South Side Shopping Park

11 February, 2020 | News, Arts, Leisure, Entertainment and Sport

A CINEMA is being proposed at a new retail park on Glasgow’s South Side.

The seven-screen venue would be created by merging two of the retail units at the development which is nearing completion beside Cathcart Road, between the Gorbals and Govanhill.

A planning application has been submitted seeking permission to change the use of the shop space.

The cinema would have a total of 600 seats. No details are given in planning documents regarding who would operate the facility.

The building would also have a restaurant/bar and would be used for conferences and other events outwith movie times.

The proposal is pending assessment by city planners.

Stores due to open at the retail park include Aldi, B&M and Iceland’s Food Warehouse. There will also be Costa Coffee and Burger King drive-thru outlets, a Greggs bakers shop.

Permission has previously been given for one unit to be used as a gym.
