PERMISSION Denied For Merchant City Cafe That’s Already Open

13 April, 2022 | Food and Drink

PLANNERS have refused permission for a Glasgow city centre cafe that started trading some months ago.

Sorriso Breakfast and Brunch Restaurant opened at 81 Candleriggs in the Merchant City before officials had given a verdict on the change-of-use request.

The premises were formerly used as a hair salon. Several residents had objected to the application.

A report by officials states: “The applicant proposes low level dispersal of cooking fumes into a residential back court.

“No justification has been submitted as to why high-level dispersal cannot be achieved at this location.

“This is considered to be contrary to policy. The proposed method of dispersal is considered to be to the detriment of residential amenity at the locus.”

A second reason for refusal was failure to provide details of any on-site waste storage facilities.

The applicant can lodge an appeal over the decision.
