PERMISSION is being sought to turn part of a B-listed former garment factory in Dalmarnock into a cafe and bakery.

Spectrum Properties have applied to make alterations and change the use of premises at 103 French Street.

The cafe area would have around 32 seats. Likely hours of operation would be 6am to 5pm.

A statement submitted to Glasgow planners explains: “On the basis of significant regeneration activity in the area, investment by Clyde Gateway and the legacy of the Commonwealth Games in 2014, the applicant considered that there was an excellent opportunity to create a bespoke bakery and cafe to serve the new business and residential population of the area.

“The building is a unique structure with delightful architectural detail that is worthy of its listing to be preserved for future generations and a reminder of the city’s industrial legacy.”

Neighbouring land is being developed for offices, light industrial units and a business/storage centre.
