NEW Restaurant Can Be Built In West End, Say Planners

22 October, 2021 | Food and Drink

PLANNING permission has been given for a restaurant development in Glasgow’s West End.

City planners have agreed that the single storey building, with mezzanine, can be built behind 147 Dumbarton Road, on a triangular site also bounded by Benalder Street and Coopers Well Street, near the junction with Byres Road.

The planning application was submitted by developer Cater Group.

There are no details about what kind of restaurant it would be. Proposed opening hours are 11am to 11pm, seven days a week.

The building previously on the site was part of a restaurant fronting Dumbarton Road.

A statement included with the application explained: “This proposal reinstates the former use on this site but as a standalone unit.

“This site has lain vacant for some considerable time and this should be seen as an opportunity to encourage a well-considered design solution.”
