MAJOR Supermarket Chain Lined Up For Landmark City Centre Unit

7 October, 2022 | Retail, Listed / Historic Buildings

A NEW operator is set to take over the former Co-op supermarket at the historic Ca D’oro building in Glasgow City Centre.

The Co-op vacated the A-listed premises at the corner of Union Street and Gordon Street last month.

Tesco is to turn the unit into one of its Express outlets in the latest development for the company’s city centre portfolio.

An application for new signage has been submitted to the city council.

Tesco has closed two of its shops within the last year — one on Renfield Street, taken over by Spar, and another on Ingram Street, now occupied by Sainsbury’s.

However Tesco plan to open another new outlet on the ground floor of a large student accommodation building on North Hanover Street at Dobbie’s Loan.
