JOB Centre Proposed For Ex-Newspaper Base In Glasgow City Centre

4 March, 2021 | Office

FORMER newspaper offices in Glasgow City Centre are being lined up for use a job centre as part of the UK Government’s response to the covid pandemic.

The facility would occupy two floors at the vacated Herald/Glasgow Times base at the top of Renfield Street.

A change-of-use application has been submitted to Glasgow City Council by Instant Managed Offices Limited and the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The centre would be one of a number being provided nationally as part of the UK Government’s initiatives to address the economic and employment implications of the pandemic.

It would be an appointment-only facility, manned by work coaches. The centre would operate on the ground and first floor.

A supporting statement submitted to planners comments: “The proposed use will provide a vital service in the economy’s recovery.”

Herald/Times owner Newsquest decided to vacate the premises last year, with staff moving out in May.
