PLANNERS have agreed that former newspaper offices in Glasgow City Centre can be used a job centre as part of the UK Government’s response to the covid pandemic.
The facility will occupy two floors at the vacated Herald/Glasgow Times base at the top of Renfield Street.
Glasgow City Council officials have approved a change-of-use application submitted by Instant Managed Offices Limited and the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The centre will be one of a number being provided nationally as part of the UK Government’s initiatives to address the economic and employment implications of the pandemic.
It will be an appointment-only facility, manned by work coaches. The centre will operate on the ground and first floor.
A supporting statement submitted to planners commented: “The proposed use will provide a vital service in the economy’s recovery.”
Herald/Times owner Newsquest decided to vacate the premises last year, with staff moving out in May.
