A LANDMARK pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Forth and Clyde Canal in north Glasgow has opened.

Previously a narrow road tunnel on Lochburn Road was the only connection between the Bishopbriggs/Kirkintilloch/Falkirk side of the canal and the section between Maryhill and Speirs Wharf for walkers and cyclists

The Stockingfield crossing connects the communities of Maryhill, Gilshochill, and Ruchill for the first time since the waterway’s opening in 1790.

It serves as the final link in the canal towpath, offering a continuous active travel route along the whole length from Bowling on the Clyde to Edinburgh in the east via the Union Canal.

Landscaped spaces and art have also been provided.
