A MASTERPLAN for the major Candleriggs Quarter scheme has been drawn up including detailed designs for a 500-bed hotel and 350-apartment build-to-rent complex, fronting Trongate.

Drum Property Group and Stamford Property Investments are progressing the mixed-use transformation of the vacant site at Trongate, Hutcheson Street, Wilson Street and Brunswick Street/Lane in Glasgow City Centre.

The masterplan features five plots (see diagram below). Detailed planning applications are being lodged for two of them — Plot A is for The Student Hotel’s first UK outlet which will have 500 bedrooms, co-working,conference and food and beverage uses at ground and first floor as well as leisure, gym and event space.

The Student Hotel states that its mission is to “create boundary-blurring spaces where students, travellers, mobile professionals, creative nomads and enterprising minds can connect and thrive in smart design co-living and co-working spaces.”

An operator is also on board for Plot B which will have around 350 build-to-rent apartments as well as a range of commercial units at ground floor, with a generous entrance lobby fronting Trongate, giving direct access to a communal landscaped courtyard at first floor in addition to a range of roof terraces giving views across the city.

The other three plots will be suitable for office, residential and hotel use.

An application for mixed use consent in principle for the whole site has been submitted.
