CONSULTATION has started over a massive private and student residential development proposed for Glasgow’s Central Quay site.

Summix CQG is looking to develop a 600 to 800 bedroom student accommodation complex, and around 450 apartments on land between Warroch Street and Hydepark Street, along with ground floor commercial space.

A modernisation strategy for the 2 Central Quay office building to attract new leasehold opportunities is also proposed.

The student project is being developed in conjunction with the University of Glasgow “to ensure that the proposed accommodation suits the required demand”.

Details posted on the consultation website state: “The streets would be designed to be welcoming and activated with ground floor functions and front doors to provide activity and to encourage interaction between residents.

“There will be attractive amenity spaces with good sunlight and daylight levels. It is the intention to maximise the number of homes that have a view of the River Clyde.

“We are proposing a new public space at the heart of the scheme which should be a flexible space that provides opportunities to accommodate events of various scales.

“Surrounded by mixed uses, the square is to be animated and populated throughout the day.

Construction is well underway on around 500 rental flats on land immediately to the south of the site.

Land to the east, beside the M8 motorway is the subject of proposals for around 670 flats for rent.
