HUGE Student Block Proposed For Vacant City Centre Building

13 March, 2021 | Student Accommodation

PLANS have been drawn up to convert empty Glasgow City Centre offices into a massive student accommodation complex.

iQ Student Accommodation want to turn premises on Bath Street, between Pitt Street and Holland Street into a 500-bedroom facility.

A planning application is due to be submitted this spring, with iQ hoping work could start in summer 2022.

iQ state that the building is no longer fit for modern office needs and that demand is shifting towards Broomielaw.

The company state: “The depth of the existing building and its internal layout means that it is not viable to convert the existing structure for alternative uses.

“The existing building provides a poor and unwelcoming street frontage.”

Students would be offered a wide variety of bedroom and flat layout options.

How the development would look

iQ adds: “The student experience is at the heart of iQ’s business, reflected in developments that focus on student wellbeing and creating a sense of community through shared social and study spaces, free leisure facilities, gyms and a full programme of events.

“Because iQ owns and operates all of their buildings, they are invested in ensuring that they build and operate sites that positively impact the local communities of which iQ are a part.”
