NEARLY 100 houses and flats are being proposed for a site beside the M77 near Silverburn Shopping Centre.

Persimmon Homes want to built 93 properties next to Barrhead Road as part of development on land previously occupied by Cowglen Hospital and the National Savings and Investment (NS&I) buildings.

The application is for 57 two, three and four-bedroom houses and 36 two-bedroom flats

Terraced houses and and three-storey flats are proposed along the Boydstone Road and Barrhead Road frontages.

A design statement submitted with the application explains: “Focal points at the site entrances are provided by the incorporation of prominent flatted blocks which also help to create feature buildings showcasing a visually prominent eastern ‘gateway’ to Pollok.

“The proposed units, and the submitted layout, represent an efficient use of land whilst creating an attractive development designed to meet market need in the area.”

The application is pending consideration by Glasgow City planners.
