HOTEL Plan Dropped In Favour Of Student Housing

30 November, 2022 | Hotels, Student Accommodation

A STUDENT accommodation building is now being proposed for a Glasgow City Centre site instead of a hotel.

Caledon Properties want to demolish disused commercial buildings on the corner of Hutcheson Street and Trongate, and replace them with a 173-bed facility.

Permission was given in February 2020 for a 157-bedroom aparthotel at the site.

A statement given as part of pre-application consultation explains: “The previously approved scheme has been amended to reflect PBSA [purpose-built student accommodation] floor plans which now accommodate different size apartments and private amenity spaces at ground floor level, basement levels and upper floors.

“The new proposal will retain the same mass of the previously consented building envelope.”

“We are currently working to finalise exterior materiality and details.”

Plans for three other student accommodation buildings in the city centre were announced recently — on Sauchiehall Street, on Queen Street and on Osborne Street.

Meanwhile, planning permission was granted for a 550-room student accommodation building at 225 Bath Street in the city centre in February this year.
