FINNIESTON Flats Approved On Third Attempt

4 June, 2024 | News

A DEVELOPER has finally secured permission for new apartments on a vacant site in Finnieston.

Glasgow’s planning applications committee approved revised proposals by HJV Consultants for a block with 14 flats and two ground floor commercial units at 1017 Argyle Street, opposite Kent Road.

Two previous proposals had been refused, although the more recent one was recommended for approval for planners only to be voted down by city councillors.

Officials had again urged that permission be given and this time councillors agreed. Planners stated in their report: “The application site is a vacant brownfield site and the proposed development will help to strengthen the residential character of the area by reintroducing housing onto a site which once housed tenement style flatted properties.

“The design and materials of the proposal have been amended to ensure the building design better relates to that of the adjacent Listed Building and context of the surrounding conservation area.”

An application for 19 flats and two commercial units at the site was refused in 2019.
