END Of The Road For Petrol Stations Under ASDA Shop Bid

27 January, 2022 | Retail

PLANS have been drawn up to demolish two Glasgow petrol stations and replace them with new Asda convenience stores.

Applications have been submitted to knock down the Shell garages at 289 Bearsden Road, Anniesland and 61 Edinburgh Road, Baillieston, which both have Spar forecourt shops.

A statement submitted with the Anniesland proposal explains: “The proposed retail unit will be occupied by the new Asda On The Move store format…. and will act as a neighbourhood convenience store.”

It continues: “The design of the proposed development is reflective of modern commercial type buildings and will improve the aesthetic and visual quality of the site to the overall area.

“The site at present is dated and does little to contribute to the visual quality of the surrounding area.

“The proposed development will result in a significant decrease in the volume of cars to that site and, consequently, reduce noise activity and improve the general air quality to the immediate area.”

The applications, by Euro Garages Ltd, are pending consideration by city planners.
