EMPTY Retail Park Unit In East End Lined Up For Grocery Chain

22 December, 2021 | Retail

A SUPERMARKET chain wants to open its fourth Glasgow outlet, in Parkhead.

Iceland hopes to bring one of its The Food Warehouse stores to Forge Retail Park, creating around 30 jobs.

It would be in the former Harveys furniture unit which has been vacant since July 2020.

The company has applied to Glasgow City Council for permission to make alterations to the building.

Permission to increase the amount of food sales space at the retail park is also needed.

A report submitted to City planners states: “The proposal will secure a new tenant for a vacant unit and positive benefits will be delivered through re-use of the premises, which will directly benefit the local community in terms of increased choice, availability and accessibility to retail provision as well as creating opportunities for employment.”

Glasgow’s other The Food Warehouse sites are at retail parks in Robroyston, Auldhouse and Crown Street.
