THE operator of Glasgow’s bike hire scheme is looking at whether to add electric bikes to the city’s fleet.
Nextbike said it was working with Glasgow City Council on the idea of introducing e-bikes to the scheme.
The company posted the update on its Twitter feed, asking for people to give their thoughts on the idea.
Responding to the suggestion, Councillor Anna Richardson, City Convener for Sustainability and Carbon Reduction, wrote: “E-bikes are crucial in ensuring active travel is accessible to as many people as possible and would be a real boost to our bike hire scheme.”
Nextbike also announced that they would be adding 150 bikes in Glasgow this autumn.
There are currently 500 bikes at 62 locations across the city. The plan in coming years is to expand to 100 hire locations with 900 bikes.
The total number of hires in 2017 was just over 384,000
