PLANS for 48 houses at a site in Dalmarnock have been approved.

Councillors on Glasgow’s planning applications committee have given permission to Keepmoat Homes for the development on vacant land at Carstairs Street, French Street, Webster Street and Swanston Street.

The terraced properties, for private sale, will be mainly two storey but with feature three-storey bookend townhouses at all four prominent corners.

There will be 34 three-bedroom dwellings, 10 with two bedrooms and four townhouses, each with four bedrooms.

There will be a generous central communal amenity area with soft landscaping, seating, natural play equipment and outdoor gym equipment.

Planning officials had recommended approval stating: “The development is considered to have a respectful relationship with surrounding residential development, and does not appear overbearing in scale and massing.”

A design statement submitted with the application explained: “A bespoke range of house types is proposed for this site. This provides a good range of mid-priced unit sizes and types to ensure the broadest market appeal.

“This mix will deliver desperately needed high quality new family housing for Dalmarnock.”

It continues: “The main design aim is to recreate a residential city block respecting and addressing the established street pattern. Active outward looking frontage is proposed on all four streets, with parking and amenity space contained at the heart of the block.”
