DENNISTOUN Apartments Development Appeal Fails

19 January, 2021 | Residential

How the development was expected to look

A DEVELOPER has lost an attempt to overturn Glasgow City Council’s refusal of a plan for flats in Dennistoun.

Stanton Brook Estates had proposed 46 flats for land between Birkenshaw Street and Cumbernauld Road.

The council refused permission in May 2020 and the applicant appealed, but city councillors who reviewed the case have now also rejected it

Planners in their decision notice said that the density and scale of the block, combined with lack of open space, would result in overdevelopment.

Concerns were also raised about lack of open space and car parking, and the proposed flat roof was not in keeping with surrounding properties.

No statement regarding energy had been provided and the proposals failed to include adequate compensation for the loss of habitats.

A report by officials stated: “No attempt has been made to establish character and a varied sense of place.”
