A £79.5MILLION contract has been awarded for construction of the first opening road bridge over the River Clyde and new connections into Scotland’s manufacturing innovation district.
Councillors from Renfrewshire Council’s finance board agreed that civil engineering specialists GRAHAM will carry out the work.
A twin-leaf swing bridge for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians between Renfrew and Yoker forms the centrepiece of the project.
Therre will also be riverside walking and cycling routes and a new road through Renfrew connecting the bridge to the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) being developed by the council in collaboration with Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise.
All planning consent is in place and construction is scheduled to start in spring and take three years to complete, with the contract to be finalised later this month following conclusion of the procurement process.
The project is jointly funded by the UK and Scottish Governments through the Glasgow City Region City Deal.
