WORK has started on a new student accommodation block on a gap site beside the High Court in Glasgow.

The 169-bed facility is being built on land bounded by Jocelyn Square, Bridgegate, St Margaret’s Place and Mart Street, near Glasgow Green.

It will contain a mix of studio apartments of varying sizes each with private kitchenettes, en-suite bathrooms and amenity space.

There will also be landscaping including tree planting, street furniture and public realm improvements.

At the time of the planning application originally being given in March 2017, council officials stated: ”The principle of development on this site is welcomed, helping to repair the urban fabric and bring more activity to the street.

“There is also the opportunity to positively improve the setting of the neighbouring listed buildings. It is considered that the proposal in terms of scale, massing and materials can be supported in its present form.”

Permission expired but was later renewed.
