6 July, 2018 | News, Student Accommodation

WORK has started on a 300-bed Glasgow City Centre student accommodation development which will include facilities for music, drama and dance students.

The building in Dunblane Street, Cowcaddens is for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Soller One Ltd and was approved recently by city planners.

How the building is expected to look

The site, which formerly contained a bus depot latterly used for parking, is near the conservatoire and beside the National Piping Centre.

Amenity space will include a dance studio, a gym, a cinema, practice rooms, private patios, landscaped courtyards, several roof terraces and a sky lounge.

Work is due to be completed by the start of September 2019.

A document submitted with the application stated: “The development has been carefully designed in response to the site’s immediate context and the surrounding townscape in this part of the city and provides a new urban block with appropriate scale and quality of materials.

“The overall scale of the development has been carefully balanced with the B-listed Piping Centre and the A-listed Scottish Ambulance centre.”
