COMMERCIAL Option Follows Residential Proposal For Southside Location

A PLANNING application seeking commercial consent has been submitted for a Cathcart site that’s already subject of a residential plan by the same developer.

Both applications by Avid Xircon North Ltd seek permission in principle in relation to an area at the junction of Newlands Road and Tankerland Road.

The land currently contains a single-storey building previously used for engineering purposes by Weir Pumps. It has a paved car park above it.

As reported previously, the residential option suggests around 30 flats in a five-storey block.

A planning statement submitted by the applicant’s consultants Iceni Projects regarding the commercial proposal indicates that there could be four small units with a variety of uses.

The single-storey development would have sales space of 1,200 square metres and have about 48 parking spaces.

The statement continues: “As an application for planning permission in principle, the scale and massing outlined within the sketches is indicative and the number of units within the commercial development is approximate and subject to change.”

Flexibility is requested to allow various uses including retail, office, food/drink, leisure, financial/professional and other services, and hot food takeaway.

Detailed plans would need to be drawn up and approved if the commercial use was accepted by planners.
