COFFEE Shop Plan For City Centre Premises

19 December, 2022 | Food and Drink

A RETAIL unit in central Glasgow is being lined up for a coffee shop makeover by a major chain.

Caffe Nero have applied to change the use of premises at 36/38 West George Street into a mixture of cafe and shop.

A planning statement explains: “Around 40% of the trade of a Caffè Nero unit is Class 1 (i.e. the sale of drinks and sandwiches for consumption off the premises) and 60% Class 3 (i.e. consumption on the premises).”

“Caffè Nero is widely regarded as a purveyor of coffee products, for consumption both on and off the premises. Therefore, the presence of Caffè Nero coffee shops on the high street can be distinguished from traditional Class 3 food and drink operations.”

The proposal includes a small outdoor seating area.
