A HIGH-rise student accommodation block is being proposed for a concealed site near Royal Exchange Square in Glasgow City Centre.

The block at 1-3 Royal Exchange Court/South Exchange Court would have capacity for several hundred students.

Ediston (RES) Ltd have started pre-application consultation on the proposal which would involve demolition and façade retention of a B-listed terrace, currently used as offices but in low demand.

The student housing would be behind properties on Royal Exchange Square and Queen Street and would front Springfield Court which is to the rear of Princes Square shopping centre.

Planning permission was given in 2013 for a hotel and leisure development on the site and the new proposal is of a similar height to that scheme.

A drop-in public consultation event will take place on Thursday 20 June at Pacific House, 70 Wellington Street.
