A 90-BEDROOM extension is being proposed for a Glasgow City Centre hotel.

An application has been submitted seeling permission to build extra accommodation at the Doubletree by Hilton in Cambridge Street.

The hotel currently has 304 bedrooms across eight floors, plus a bar, swimming pool and a number of dining and function rooms including a 1,500-capacity ballroom.

A design statement included with the application explains: “There is now a need for additional high quality rooms to meet the continuing demand of the hotel and the first floor rooftop above the ballroom has been identified as the location for the bedroom extension.

“The proposal is to be two new three-storey bedrooms blocks, that extend the existing wings to meet the eastern edge of the building.”

The hotel was built in the 1980s as the SKean Dhu Hotel and later became part of the Hilton portfolio.
