CARE Home And Supported Living Facility Proposed For Garthamlock Site

6 July, 2021 | News

AN application has been made for a care and supported living development in north east Glasgow.

Voyage Care want to build the facility at Findochty Street, opposite Findochty Place in Garthamlock.

There would be three buildings:

— A 16-bed brain injury rehabilitation care home

— A block with 12 brain injury rehabilitation supported-living apartments

— A block with 12 supported-living apartments for people with learning disability.

A design document submitted with the application states: “The aspiration of this project is to provide much needed high quality care and supported living apartments that specifically provide for people with learning disabilities, and to provide care and support for people with a brain injury.

“The site is currently vacant and has become vegetated with scrub and self seeded trees. Our clients, Voyage Care wish to transform this site and provide a positive addition to the neighbourhood.”

“Voyage Care prefer to offer care or residential support at a small scale; their facilities are similar in scale to small apartment buildings rather than some care homes which are institutional in scale.

“As a result the proposed massing of the buildings is similar in height and scale to the proposed neighbouring properties and comfortably sits within the context.

In 2009 planning permission was granted for care home and supported living units at the site.

A water vole habitat exists on the land — an application has been made for a licence to relocate the animals.

The proposal is pending assessment by city planners.
