BIODIVERSITY Mural Proposed For West End

12 August, 2021 | Public Art

DESIGNS for a mural inspired by local schoolchildren have been submitted for planning approval.

Around 100 pupils at Hillhead Primary have contributed artwork towards the project which ties in with the Glasgow climate change conference in November.

The mural, by artist T O’Hara, is proposed for the wall of shop premises on the corner of Gibson Street and Otago Street, opposite the school.

A design statement included with the application made by Hillhead Primary School’s parent council states: “The aims are to beautify the wall and reduce graffiti tags on this wall. The primary school children also learn to contribute to their community and care for the world around them.

“The children discussed how we need to care about our world and look after biodiversity.

“The message conveyed is that our world is beautiful and can be as fragile as paper.”
