BIG-Name Brand Lined Up For Stalled City Centre Hotel Development

25 March, 2021 | Hotels

A MAJOR multi-storey building on Glasgow’s riverfront finally looks set to be completed with confirmation of a new hotel operator for it.

Virgin Hotels are to take on the 17-storey structure on Clyde Street which is substantially complete and has capacity for several hundred bedrooms.

Planning applications for signage and a canopy have been submitted to Glasgow City Council.

How the hotel is expected to look

The development includes part of neighbouring premises at Riverside House.

Virgin Hotels is planning to open a number of venues in North America and Europe.

Work on the prominent building started several years ago and has been stalled while its future was determined.

It had been announced in June 2019 that it was to become Europe’s first Tribe hotel, a brand launched by Accor Hotel Group.

The building was originally intended to be student accommodation but planning permission for use as a hotel was sought instead in response to a change in the market.
