CITY of Glasgow College has won its 11th accolade for City Campus which opened to students just two years ago.

The recently-completed parkland at the super campus on Glasgow’s Cathedral Street won the Landscape and Public Realm prize at this year’s Scottish Design Awards.

Paul Little, principal and chief executive of City of Glasgow College, said: “Our landscaped area completes and complements our stunning City campus.

“The park provides a welcome and vital green space for students and the wider community in the heart of Glasgow’s learning quarter. I am delighted that RankinFraser have been recognised for their landscape architectural excellence.”

Chris Rankin, co-founder at RankinFraser, said: “The award is welcome recognition for the contribution that City Campus makes to the landscape and public realm of the City of Glasgow.”

He added: “As always, great projects can only be achieved with the support of a committed client and a dedicated design and construction team. We are delighted to have been able to contribute to the success of the City of Glasgow College.”

The park has 17,500 square metres of accessible open space with a terraced walkway that links the north of the city to Cathedral Street.

Taking pride of place is the recent addition of a statue of St Mungo, Glasgow’s patron saint, which was created by college alumni, Roddy McDowall, with the support of the Incorporation of Masons of Glasgow.

The Scottish Design Awards acknowledges top design agencies and architecture firms for their contribution to the country’s design culture.
