CITY planners have given permission for residential development at the site of a former 1920s cinema in Dennistoun.

Officials have agreed that McKernan Homes Ltd can build 24 two-bedroom apartments on vacant land at Meadowpark Street/Marne Street, near Alexandra Parade.

The Parade Cinema opened there in 1921.

There will be two four-storey blocks, one on each side of the site, with parking and landscaping in between.

Each flat will have cycle storage. Fourteen car parking spaces will be provided.

A document submitted with the application states: “The proposed development would contribute towards the creation of a vibrant and accessible residential neighbourhood.

“The proposal would see the development of a vacant plot which is in poor condition.”
